HAPPY FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY IWSG!🎉
Shout-out to Alex and the awesome co-hosts for today: Kate Larkinsdale, SE White, JS Pailly, Olga Godim, and Natalie Aguirre!
Sept 2 question -
Do you have a favorite character archetype you tend to gravitate toward in your writing?
Answer
The Ally: A loyal friend who helps the hero on their path.
The Rebel: Breaks rules to fix a broken system.
In many ways, these both reflect my character Heath, especially in Fractions of Existence. Heath helps Xavier, even when he's unsure if it's the best path.

(The majority of Fractions of Existence takes place in 2005.)

My cousin-in-law sent me this. She's stood by and helped me so much this summer, especially when I was hospitalized twice. And she's a fellow IWSG member! https://uniquelymaladjustedbutfun.blogspot.com/

That was a nice message from your cousin-in-law.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I felt this would be a good way to say thanks, here on this post.
DeleteHow cool that your cousin is a member of our group too. I hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we have a lot in common.
DeleteI hope you're well. Heath is a great character. I've known about the D2D changes and have since pivoted my entire author business... As I've read and reviewed all of your books, I'm anxiously waiting here for something new ;-)
ReplyDeleteHealing. Working on book three bit by bit.
DeleteI remember the Book It program.
ReplyDeleteSo far, DLP has not been charged a few but we are probably hitting that $100 minimum.
Cool cool
DeleteRebels are very attractive characters. I think it's because they let us imagine ourselves as rule breakers and justice seekers.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you and your cousin are members here. Keep it in the family, I say!
LOL. It's a pretty distant family relation, actually. But we get along great.
DeleteOoh! Book it season! You're right. I need to get signed up for my girls. Thanks for the reminder! (Loved that text from the cousin.)
ReplyDeleteThanks. :)
DeleteI have a great time mixing and matching archetypes. Surprises are good too. :-)
ReplyDeleteAgree.
DeleteAn Ally and a Rebel - how interesting. I love friends and allies. They are wonderful characters both to read about and to write. Rebels - not so much. But that is personal. In my experience, most rebels inflict lots of damage on the innocent while they break the rules for their own reasons. Their cause might be just and good and overall positive, but the way they go about their rebellions is usually messy and often bloody.
