#IWSG Productive Writing Months

ISWG

Shout-out to the awesome co-hosts for today: Pat Garcia, Sylvia Ney, Liesbet @ Roaming About Cathrina Constantine, and Natalie Aguirre!

December 2 question - Are there months or times of the year that you are more productive with your writing than other months, and why?

Yes!

J Lenni Dorner winner nanowrimo 2020

November is my most productive writing month, thanks to NaNoWriMo
April is my most productive blog-writing month, thanks to the A to Z Challenge.

I've written almost half a million words during NaNoWriMo. (Don't look too closely at how many I've chucked out, especially from Proof of Existence. The third book is easy, the second book is freaking difficult! Arggh.)

Do you take part in either of those?

Are you in the IWSG book club on Goodreads? I'm honored to have written the writing craft book that's being read for Dec/Jan/Feb.

Preparing to Write Settings That Feel Like Characters on Smashwords

  1. That's awesome that you have been able to get so much writing done during NaNo. I haven't been able to do it because of my job and other responsibilities. But this year, I did either edit or write most days of the month. Hoping to continue with it.

    1. That's awesome. Sometimes it's a victory to give your writing even 5 minutes a day.

  2. Well done for your NaNo word count! I've done it before, and had a feeble attempt this year, but wasn't really in the mood. I'm letting myself off, as 2020 has been enough of a downer without me adding to it!

    1. Yeah, 2020 is certainly an uphill battle for every little thing. But I wanted to fight back.

  3. Hi,
Magnificent! NaNo is definitely one of your most productive months. I am also in the IWSG Goodreads Club. I have to check out your Craft book.
Wishing you all the best and a Merry Christmas and a safe passage into 2021.

    1. I hope my book inspires you. Not many books have settings that feel like characters, but it can be really fun when it's done well.

  4. Cool. I'm planning on getting a copy of both books. They look like good picks for the IWSG book club. Congrats on all your words and winning NaNo!

  6. I don't usually take part in any formal writing challenges, but I admire people who do. I'm thinking about A to Z for the next year.

  7. Congrats on NaNo! I wouldn't dare check to see how many words you keep. Pushing through, we do what we gotta do. As ugly as that may be. ;-)

    1. Yeah. Sometimes you look at a scene like... "What was I thinking? Oh, right, I wasn't thinking, I was blind typing and hoping something would come of it. Move this to the junk file."

  10. Congrats on Nano! I've never been able to do it myself and I envy people who can be so focused.

  11. Hi Lenni! I did A2Z two years in a row. 2018 and 19. Nanowrimo I have never attempted. I guess I'm not that focused. Congratulations on completing.

  12. Half million words! Wow. :)

I've participated in both NaNo and AtoZ. Although I've only done AtoZ once, I'm thinking about participating in it this time around. It's a toss up between that and Camp NaNo and NaPoWriMo. Perhaps I should ALL of them! ;)

  13. Wow! That NaNo total is extraordinary--well done! And thank you for the reminder about the Goodreads book club, I keep forgetting about it!

  14. I usually do my own version of NaNo that caters to my specific needs, but not this year. Maybe next year! Way to go on your word NaNo accomplishments!

  15. I like to leverage the NaNo energy, but this year it just wasn't there for me. Well done for completing your goal!

  16. That's a great point about NaNoWriMo--I'm not sure I would have thought of it, but it's fantastic for productivity. I participate every year.
