My theme for the 2026 A to Z Challenge is plotting Book Three in my Existence series — Cave of Existence.
The next goal is to introduce the central idea, or life lesson, that will be discovered and fought for throughout the story. ﹘ If Love conquers all, then Love can change characters, and Love must be a transformative, powerful force.
"Don't you know? Love overcomes all odds." Hannah tells Heath when they reconnect. But how many "odds" will they need to overcome? Is reuniting in this life enough? The Eyes in the Shadows still have plans to extinguish all life on Earth. And Hannah, lovely as she is, doesn't possess a way to stop them. In fact, this isn't the first time they've faced such a potential extinction ploy.

Love is never enough to overcome all odds. In fact, most odds appear after you have found love.

DeleteDepends on the story, I think. In a romance, of course love will overcome all odds. But in a dystopian, it can't even come close.
ReplyDeleteAnd this book is caught between those, trying to prevent a dystopia.
DeleteWe were watching a drama yesterday where a young woman, whose sister's beloved husband, died, and she decided she would never fall in love because it would inevitably lead to loss, but without the inevitable loss, what would love be? Is it not the loss that gives love its value? Is love not the counter to loss?
ReplyDeleteI hear that argument mostly with pets. People don't want to adopt a dog or cat because they can't deal with the short lifespan. But then there are people with certain birds, ones who outlive their human caretakers, and then families don't know how to deal with the pet they don't want.
