Understand The Traps #AtoZchallenge 2026 #Writing #Plotting #StoryBeats

#AtoZChallenge 2026 letter U

My theme for the 2026 A to Z Challenge is plotting Book Three in my Existence series — Cave of Existence.

The first part of getting in was difficult. But now there are traps to face.
Everyone needs to work together. The traps are designed so that only they could get past, but also designed to make them want to give up.

What sort of traps do you expect would be set for omnipotent beings?

  1. Good morning! The biggest trap is trying to get around the blocks. 😉 ...The A-Z post for today is not allowing comments again. Also maybe the traps you have set will make them feel United
    Have a great weekend.
    Cheers,

    1. Okay.
I just looked, and the comments seem to be working. So... I don't know.

  2. Dear J,

I had to take a break from M onwards, due to family and personal commitments that were priority. I'm checking in to ask, if I post from W onwards and finish the rest of the alphabets, in the coming month, do i still qualify as a participant for AtoZ? :)

I participated successfully 2017 and 2018. My two books are an off shoot of the wonderful writing marathon.

Hope to hear from you. I was looking to email you, but couldn't find a link.

Happy AtoZing and thank you for sharing your fabulous quotes and thoughts on some of my posts.

    Adios for now!

    1. You participated.
I totally understand what it's like to have to prioritize family and stuff first. It's totally normal, admirable even.
      Glad you enjoy my quote-in-comments.

  3. I would think that the simpler the traps the better. Omnipotent beings might not be as clever as they think they are.

So... like the water jugs in Die Hard 3? 😅

  4. Omnipotent is only unlimited power - they have the ability to do anything. They are not everywhere all at once (omnipresent) nor do they know everything (omniscient). Traps that make they want to give up: boredom - especially if you live forever - a mobius strip, getting caught in a two-D box, is going to stuck. Another is a Chinese Finger Trap where the more you fight it, the worse it gets - unlimited power does not help you. Have fun torturing your characters!

    1. Yup, not being everywhere at once was an issue in book 2. And they really don't know everything.
The finger trap... I could probably have some fun with that. Except they can transform. 🤔 Perhaps there will be something though.

    2. It's the thought that counts - something that gets more constrictive and stronger when you fight it - a spider's web, the finger trap, adulthood, the list goes on.

  5. I love traps! I'm seeing cave-ins, mummies, scary insects and spiders... I think I should watch The Mummy again...

    1. Hey, there was a spider in the shower in book 1! 😅 And Heath caused a cave-in during book 2. I'll come up with something.
