Weapon or Tool #AtoZchallenge 2026 #Writing #Plotting #StoryBeats

#AtoZChallenge 2026 letter W

My theme for the 2026 A to Z Challenge is plotting Book Three in my Existence series — Cave of Existence.

To achieve their goals, sacrifices must be made. What will they give? Will it be enough? Is it the right decision?

A question is posed debating whether they are a weapon or a tool. Are people harmed because they exist? Do they limit life on Earth by being here? Or are they a way life could improve, be safer, and be more secure?

Jez discovers the secret of a sword.

What is the greatest sacrifice you have ever made, and was it worth it?

  1. Aren't weapons tools of a sort? Can't tools be weapons? So, they could be both.

  2. Sometimes it feels like choosing teaching as a career was a sacrifice: hard on my health, my pocketbook, my time with my family. But it was good to do work that made a difference. @samanthabwriter from

  3. Both devastating sacrifices for me, no they weren't; for others, in one case yes and the other case no. But in the "yes" case it was a personal choice to protect others (which did happen) and the "no" case it was asked of me by others to "take the fall" for which I was never thanked or acknowledged for. Somewhat petty satisfaction to watch the results fall apart after I did what was asked. (I was in the right, portions of the local group were in the wrong, regional organizational leadership asked me to just accept it as I was just one person in order to save the group. The group fell apart within two years.) Take-away - protect, but don't hide from the truth because the truth will win eventually.
