Nevada comes up in more than one way in the book. It is the name of Xavier's personal pilot, as indicated by the scenes above. It is also the state Caleb is in when looking for a place to relocate. (Somewhere between Las Vegas and Reno.)

QUESTION — Have you ever been to Nevada, USA?

  1. So, there was this Green Turtle bus trip from SF to Yosemite, with sleeping in bunks on the bus, or camping, or sleeping out if the weather was good. It ended up with one day in Yosemite, and the rest took in Mono Lake, that's pretty well dry now, (and it was bad then), a ghost town, sort of, and a night under the stars over the border in Nevada, where the main attraction seemed to be weed. I found a scorpion under my sleeping mat in the morning (he was more scared of me), and the whole event was witnessed by my Aussie friend who I met as she climbed aboard, and I 'm still friends with. Oh, and on the way back we stopped for more beer, and I slept through an earthquake (predecessor of the big 89 one.)
So, yes I have been to Nevada. Arguably I spent longer in Nevada than I did in Mexico, but that's another story.

  2. Only on TV :-) I remember the pilot's name, but actually can't remember where Caleb wanted to relocate, only that he did... Mm, maybe my memory's decided to skip geographical information.
